XT is the writer of the highly praised novel The
Mask of Aubrey Clover, the story of a misfit young girl coping with
a disfiguring bone disease, who believes she will transform into a monster
on her thirteenth birthday.
The book has been praised
as "an inspirational literary feat," "haunting," "a joy," and compared to such
coming-of-age tales as The Member of the Wedding and The Catcher in the Rye.
With a writing style that
infuses lyricism with minimalism, fantasy with reality, XT's heartfelt,
surreal stories always give a voice to outsiders.
XT grew up loving monster
films such as Frankenstein, fairytales like Edward Scissorhands,
books by Edgar Allan Poe, and stories about outcasts like Joseph Merrick, and she credits her distant cousin Peter
Cushing ("Baron Frankenstein") as being one of her earliest influences.
XT
studied dramatic writing
and film at both New York University and the University of Southern
California. She was a recipient of the Burton Goldberg scholarship for
writing, in addition to the Jones Award for writing. In 2010, her film Scars at the Spook House was an official Short Film Corner selection at the Cannes Film Festival.
Her screenplay Adelia's Uprising
was a selection at the Austin Film Festival, and she has had
numerous stories published.
XT's writing
influences include Albert Camus, Richard Bach, Toni Morrison,
and Edgar Allan Poe.
